Obituary

Wilma Gunckel Keyser was born October 8, 1912 in WaKeeney, KS, to the late Lee and Lalie (Gorrell) Gunckel. She passed away Thursday, April 1, 2010 in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital at WaKeeney at the age of 97.


She was a lifetime resident of WaKeeney, graduating from Trego Community High School with the class of 1930.


Wilma worked at the former WaKeeney State Bank for a number of years.


On December 8, 1945, she was united in marriage to Howard Keyser in her parents' home. Howard passed away January 5, 1998.
Wilma was always active with music having been a private teacher of piano, violin and organ. She was organist and pianist at the First United Methodist Church for many years.


Wilma was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, the Methodist Church Women, P.E.O. sisterhood, a life member of the WaKeeney Eastern Star Margaret Chapter 249, WaKeeney, and an honorary member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society.


Survivors include a niece, Margaret Lee Mahan of AZ; nephew, Stuart Gunckel and wife, Patricia, Golden, CO; nephew, Larry Keyser and wife, Donna; and niece, Judy Kreutzer and husband, Tom, all of WaKeeney.


She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; a sister, Edith Dale Gunckel; two brothers, Ralph and Clarence Gunckel; and a sister-in-law, Betty Gunckel

Services for Wilma will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 10:00 A.M in the First United Methodist Church at WaKeeney. Visitation is 6-8 PM Monday at Schmitt Funeral Home.
