WaKeeney resident, Bill Pearson, passed away Monday, February 4, 2013, at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital, WaKeeney. He was 90 years of age. Bill was born William Joseph Pearson on May 6, 1922, in Morland, Kansas, the son of Joseph and Mildred Alice (Clark) Pearson. He was a 1940 graduate of Morland High School. He went on to serve his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was very proud of his service and often spoke of it. On June 7, 1946, Bill was united in marriage to Billy LoRee Brumbaugh, in Hill City, Kansas. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage before Billy's death on November 13, 2000. Bill worked for many years for United Telephone Company and was known to have the ability to work anywhere from the telephone line on the pole to the installation of the phone in the house. In his younger days, he loved to bowl, and enjoyed golfing with his dad. The family always had horses, and Bill spoke often of "Leah", his favorite horse.
Left to mourn his passing are many friends and family, including: two daughters Sue (Larry) Brownlee and Shelly Washington, both of Garden City; five grandchildren Shannon (Mike) Partridge, Jennifer (James) Mendenhall, Eryn (Scott) DeMoss, Joshua (Kelli) McRae, and Justin McRae; six great-grandchildren Michael Partridge, Toby and Thomas James Mendenhall, Thomas Porter, and Max and Cooper DeMoss. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter Sheryl Evinger, and two sisters Crystal and Lorene.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 8, 2013, at the Ogallah Christian Church with Pastor Stan Faulkender officiating. Burial will be in the WaKeeney City Cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5 until 7 at the funeral home.
