Obituary

Wayne Joseph Ruder was born February 7, 1947, in Hays, KS, to the late Henry J. and Josepha (Klaus) Ruder. He passed away after losing his eleven year battle with cancer on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, in the Graham County Hospital at Hill City, KS, at the age of 64.


He attended Victoria Grade School and graduated from Victoria High School with the class of 1965. He entered the National Guard on February 20, 1966, and was activated by the Army on May 13, 1968 until December 9, 1969, where he served his time in Vietnam. He was discharged from the National Guard on October 31, 1971.


On November 27, 1970, Wayne was united in marriage to Alice Knoll in Hays, KS. They were married twenty-five years and had three children together. On February 5, 2005, Wayne married Carmen (Clary) Ambrosier on the family farm in rural Graham County.


Wayne was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Randall Reid VFW Post #3449, both in WaKeeney. When he could find time between farming and raising cattle, Wayne enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and restoring antique tractors.


Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Carmen of the home; his children, Tonya Burke and husband, Chad, Shawnee, Lynnette Ruder and husband, Kerry Matticks, of Castle Rock, CO, Justin Ruder and wife, Stacy, of Hill City; step-children, Rebecca Schulz and husband, Dale, of Hill City, Tammy Ambrosier of Pennington, NJ; two grandchildren, Eva and Aiden Burke; two step-grandchildren, Emma and Micah Schulz; two brothers, Allen Ruder and wife, Mary, of Victoria, Gerald Ruder and wife, Marge, of Grand Forks, ND; two sisters, Patricia Lang and husband, Ron, of Wichita, Darlene Werth and husband, Irvin, of Hays; a sister-in-law, Jane Ruder of Salina; and twenty-three nieces and nephews.


Three brothers, Virgil, Robert, and Donald Ruder preceded him in death.

Visitation is 5:30-7:00 PM Thursday, May 12, 2011 in Schmitt Funeral Home with a Vigil Service at 7:00 PM, and the Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM, Friday, May 13, 2011 in Christ the King Catholic Church in WaKeeney.
