Obituary

Wanda (Hockersmith) Gillespie Wildeman passed away December 2, 2012 at Gove County Medical Center – Long Term Care in Quinter. She was 83 years of age.

Wanda was born December 29, 1928, on the family farm in Gove County, the daughter of Chris and Nora (Evans) Hockersmith. She was a 1947 graduate of Quinter High School. Wanda was united in marriage to Nelson Gillespie in 1948 at the Gove Methodist Church. He preceded her in death in 1968. In 1968, she married Dan Wildeman at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Grainfield. He passed away on May 24, 2001. Wanda worked as the Gove County Register of Deeds. She was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church and Christian Mothers, the EHU and the Catalina Club. She also enjoyed volunteering as a Sunday school and vacation bible school teacher, as well as donating her time at the Grainfield Library. Wanda loved to sing and listen to music. Her hands were always busy making a quilt, crocheting, or sewing something.

Survivors include a son Alvin (Deb) Gillespie of Winfield; two step-sons Francis (Doreen) Wildeman Grainfield and Vern (Fran) Wildeman of Los Angeles, California; two daughters Bonnie (Mark) Cooksey of Lynchburg, Virginia, and Sheila (Ray) Angell of Burns, Oregon; one step-daughter Annunciata (Al) Weber of Park; one step-daughter-in-law Neyla (Gene) Kippes of Hays; one sister Wilma Doxon of Quinter; seven grandchildren Jacinda Power, Jonathan Angell, Chad Angell, Kelsi Swingle, Heather Griffith, Scott Cooksey, and Brittany Zuber; and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Nelson; her second husband Dan; a step-son Pius Wildeman; four brothers Joe, Charlie, Willis, and Harold Hockersmith; and one sister Marie Mendenhall.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 6, 2012 at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Grainfield with Father Kevin Weber as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Gove City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a parish vigil service immediately following at the Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter.
