Venita Lorrene Norris Houchin was born December 22, 1936, in Wichita, KS, to the late Foster and Leoti (Hall) Newland. She passed away Saturday, January 28, 2012, in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital at WaKeeney, KS, at the age of 75.
She graduated from Winfield High School and attended South Western College, also in Winfield.
In 1958, Venita was united in marriage to Donald Norris. He passed away August of 1991. She married Everet Houchin in 1988. He passed away March 28, 1993.
Venita worked as a hairstylist, and an LPN, and was owner/operator of four retail businesses.
Her hobbies included painting, collecting Indian artifacts, collecting angels, reading and studying the Bible. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Winfield, KS and later in the Harvestime Assembly of God Church in WaKeeney.
She was a loving mother to her surviving children, Terri Johnson and companion, Dan McCracken, of Kansas City, KS, Doug Norris and companion, Kay Powers of WaKeeney, Todd Norris and wife, Nedalie, of Hays, and Phil Norris and companion, Laura Sharp, of Manhattan. Other survivors include nine grandchildren, Kimberly Lickteig-Hensley, Jennifer Lickteig-Irons and husband, Chris, Christopher Lickteig, Jeremy, Jessica, and Alexis Norris, Tyler Norris, Kara McLaughlin, and Chelsey Norris; step-grandchildren, Heather Ramos and husband, Scott, and Rick Dimmick and companion, Theresa; twelve great-grandchildren, Allison, Britton, and Caitlin Hensley, Deja Jade Nuss, Samantha, Paige, and Molly Atchley, Triston Lickteig, Taj, Kingston, and Kamden McLaughlin, Arien Laduke, and step-great-grandchildren, Sylvia and Kathy Ramos, and Benjamin Glaze, Alexandra Crotinger, and Payton Dimmick.
Her husbands, Donald Norris and Everet Houchin; a son, Ricky Norris; a grandchild, Melissa Lickteig, two brothers, four half-brothers; a sister; and two half-sisters, preceded her in death.
Funeral Services for Venita will be 9:00 AM, Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney. Interment will be 3:30 PM, also Thursday at Highland Cemetery in Winfield, KS.
Visitation is 6-8 PM Wednesday at Schmitt Funeral Home.
