Velma Westman, age 78, of Quinter, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Gove County Medical Center, Long Term Care, Quinter. She was born October 9, 1936, in Ness City to Melvin C. and Lola (Duncan) Steerman.
Velma attended Ness City Schools through 8th grade and later received her GED. On April 13, 1955, Velma was united in marriage to Richard Armstrong Westman in Denver. They were later divorced and Richard passed away on February 6, 1996. Velma worked in the dry cleaning business while living in Denver. She took pride in gardening, canning and was known for her seamstress skills. Velma was a member of the United Methodist Church. She will be deeply missed by many.
Survivors include one daughter, Julie and Mike Scholle, Denver; two sisters, Melva (late husband Joe) Gronewold, Bridgeport, Nebraska, Dorothy (Ron) Edland, Sparks, Nevada, three grandchildren, Ryan Scholle, Dustin Scholle and Shannon (James) Zielonka; three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Peyton, and Ava. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother Russell Steerman and sister Thelma Hawkinson.
In keeping with her truly benevolent spirit, Velma donated her body to science.
