Velda Elaine Transue the youngest daughter of Ralph A. and Leta May Mace Transue was born December 5, 1929 in Sheridan County and departed this life on June 13, 2016 in the Gove County Medical Center, in Quinter, Kansas at the age of 86.

Velda accepted the Lord as her Savior at an early age and became a member of the Bethel Christian Church and later moved her membership to the Hoxie Christian Church. She was actively involved in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church close to her home.

She attended the Bee Hive (one room) grade school a couple miles from her home. She attended Quinter High School for a short time later receiving her GED before attending secretarial school in Salina, Kansas.

It was Velda's delight to raise a big garden with many vegetables to can for the winter's use. The excess was shared with many friends and neighbors. The fruit trees were also plentiful. Spring time meant purchasing baby chicks to enjoy fried chicken in the summer. She was also known for her homemade angel food cakes.

Velda composed many songs with the music and lyrics as well as penned countless poetry. She enjoyed reading and handiwork. Friends and neighbors were envious of her beautiful variety of flowers in her yard and many times they graced the sanctuary at church. She enjoyed her cats and dog. Many have savored the farm fresh milk, cream and chicken eggs purchased at the Transue farm. During Velda's lifetime she treasured the fact their family farm had become a century farm being maintained in the Transue family name for over one hundred years.

Velda is survived by a niece Patsy Evans and husband, Don, nephew Tim and wife Jen, nephew Mike and wife Iris, nephew Arthur and many cousins along with her extended family the Simon's.

Preceding her in death were her parents, brother Lewis and his wife Eva Transue, her sisters, Vesta along with her husband Gene McCready and Venda Transue.

The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Studley, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment in Baker Township Cemetery following the service.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, or Gove County Medical Center - LTC in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter, KS.
