Obituary

Thelma Hibbs left this world Wednesday morning, May 30, 2012 at the age of 86. Thelma was born to the late Kearn William White and Vallie Marie (Seek) White in Swanwick, MO on August 15, 1925. She married James W. "Jim" Hibbs on May 18, 1947, in Winston, MO, this union lasted for 56 years and was blessed with three children, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Thelma attended and graduated from school in Winston, MO. during war time. Upon graduation she went to work in Kansas City for Oppenheimer's Ins. for several years. Thelma worked for the United States Post Office in Morland for over 30 years, retiring as Post Master when she was 72 years of age. She was an avid World Book sales person in Western Kansas forever encouraging children to read and learn. Thelma was active in Eastern Star for over 50 years, and an energetic Sunday school teacher for many years. She loved to sew, was an avid gardner, and well known for her delicious bread and rolls. She was a faithful wife and mother and contributed greatly to the raising of her grandchildren, always thinking of others before herself. Her faith in God was a great strength to her through-out her life.


Thelma was preceded in death by her husband James "Jim" Hibbs, two brothers, Don White and John "Bud" White. She is survived by one son, Claude Hibbs and wife, Sallie, of Chapman, two daughters, Donna Vincent of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Teresa Maley, and husband, Terry, of Quinter; Grandchildren, Jason Hibbs and wife, Jamie, of Winfield, and their daughters Malia and Keira, Austin Hibbs and wife Amber of Wamego, KS and their daughter Norie, Erin Maley and her daughter Addisyn of Quinter, Travis Maley and wife Autumn of Topeka, Jake Maley and finance Erika of Derby, Zachary Vincent of of Owasso, OK, Hannah (Vincent) Garrett and husband Ryan of Tulsa, OK, Matthew Vincent of Claremore, OK, and Daniel Vincent, all of Tulsa, OK; two sisters, Mary Gewickey and husband Frank of Wappinger Falls, NY and Virginia Baxter, and husband J.C. of Lawson, MO.

Services for Thelma were held Monday, June 4, 2012 in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Stan Smith officiating. Interment is in the church cemetery.
