Shirley Ann (Kysar) Jamison was born in Quinter, KS to Vern and Edith (Allen) Kysar on June 3, 1934. After several years of declining health, she peacefully departed from this life on October 13, 2013.
One of Shirley's core values was family relationships, which was first modeled to her by her parents, Vern and Edith. They provided a home that was full of love, music, and laughter; and Shirley dearly loved her three older sisters, Marian, Kathy, Dorothy, and her two younger brothers, Douglas and Gilbert. No family gathering was ever complete without the Kysar sisters singing along with the piano, and Doug and Gib telling stories.
While attending Quinter High School, Shirley met Marlan Jamison, was married on May 23, 1952 and together they shared 61 years of marriage. Except for two years in Gunnison, CO to manage the Kysar family ranch, Marlan and Shirley made their home in Quinter, KS. They were blessed with three daughters, Marla, Debra and Jill.
Shirley was a homemaker. She loved to sew for her daughters, garden and can, bake pies and loan books from her personal library. Marlan and Shirley spent much time in White Pine, CO building their cabin and sharing it with others. Many wonderful memories were created in White Pine, as family and friends took part in jeep rides, hikes and enjoyed the beauty of the mountains.
A member of Valhalla Club for over 50 years, Shirley treasured the friendships she had with these women, most of whom she had known since childhood. She also enjoyed history and was a part of the Quinter Centennial Documentary, the Quinter High School Alumni Association, and an avid family historian.
For 10 years, Shirley worked as a receptionist at the Quinter Doctor's Office until she began working full time for Quinter Manufacturing Company, a construction business she and Marlan started in 1962. Her official title was Secretary/Bookkeeper, but her influence was much deeper as she and Marlan depended on each other for advice and counsel as they grew their business which still operates today as QMC, Inc. The highlight of her work day was when customers, friends, and community members would stop by her office for a visit.
Even at a young age, Shirley had a love for the Lord and made a public confession of her faith in the Quinter Methodist Church and later became a member of the Dunkard Brethren Church. Shirley was an active member of the Dunkard Church and for many years was a Sunday school teacher, was active in Bible School and the congregational song leader. One of her greatest joys was the involvement she and Marlan had with the Torreon Navajo Mission in New Mexico and the Gideons.
Shirley had a great capacity for love and relationships. Her gift was her hospitality, her table was always surrounded with family, many friends and she never turned away those in need.
The family requests that Memorials be made to either the Torreon Navajo Mission or Gideon's International. They may be sent in care of the funeral home.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013, 10:00 a.m. at the Dunkard Brethren Church of Quinter. Immediate burial took place in the Baker Township Cemetery, Quinter.
