Obituary

Shannon R. Day was born August 1, 1972 in WaKeeney, KS, to Donald Jesse and Corene (Griffey) Day. He passed away Sunday, September 27, 2009 at his home in WaKeeney at the age of 37.


He attended WaKeeney Grade School and graduated from the Trego Community High School with the class of 1990. He received an Associates Degree in auto body from Northwest Kansas Vocational Technical School in Goodland.


On June 24, 1995, Shannon married Lora Stuckey in Tuscola, IL.


Shannon was a self-employed certified auto glass installer and custom painter. He was a member of the Abate Club in Illinois, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3774 of WaKeeney. Shannon served his community as a member of the Volunteer Firefighter Department and a past member of the WaKeeney Recreation Commission.


Shannon enjoyed motorcycles and going to the lake. He loved rock music, nascar racing and dirt track racing. Shannon had a special art talent and was very creative with painting and air brushing. His devotion to his children was reflected in the many times he coached their sporting activities. Holiday times were special when Shannon dressed as Santa Claus.


Those survivors left to mourn his passing are his wife, Lora; a son, Dalton; a daughter, Kimberly 'Peeches', all of WaKeeney; his mother, Corene; his grandmother, Darlene Day of Lenora; seven siblings, Butch Day and wife, Lana, of Kingman, Doug Day of Las Vegas, NV, Rob Day and Pat Gaut of WaKeeney, Diana Parke and husband, Richard, of WaKeeney, Jesse Day and wife, Shelley, of Las Vegas, NV, Pamela Weilert and husband, Michael, of Hays, and Denny Day and wife, Susan, of WaKeeney; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Kathy and Ron Kirkland, of WaKeeney; his father-in-law, Jerry Stuckey of Moscow, KS; a sister-in-law, Tracey Gardner and husband, Greg, of Goodwell, OK; a brother-in-law, Jeremy Stuckey of Meade; nieces and nephews, Shane Day, Ryan Day, Luke and Brittney Parke, Emma and Owen Day, Dustin and Derick Day, Zachary Day, Pierce Day, Chase Day, Jesse and Tracee Weilert, Abigail Gardner, and Emily Stuckey, Michael, Tad, Jesse, Brittney, Nikki, and Nicole Stuckey.


Preceding him in death were his father, Donald Day; nephew, Michael Stuckey, and niece Emily Stuckey.


Services for Shannon were held Thursday, October 1, 2009 in Church of God at WaKeeney with Pastor Troy Miller officiating. Interment is in the WaKeeney City Cemetery.
