Royce Daniel Crist was born August 22, 1936, in Quinter, Kansas to the Reverend Roy and Jennie (Anderson) Crist. He passed away Thursday, September 17, 2009, in the Gove County Medical Center at Quinter, Kansas at the age of 73.
Royce grew up in both Quinter and LaVerne, California, spending the summer months each year on the family farm in Quinter. He attended school in LaVerne, graduating from Bonita High School in 1954, then took classes at LaVerne College and Cal Poly Pomona.
On October 1, 1955, Royce married his high school sweetheart, Susan Tillman. They resided in LaVerne for several years, attending college and working. In 1968, Royce and Susan made Quinter their home. They farmed for a number of years. Royce also worked for Quinstar and Formation Plastics.
Royce took great pleasure in his family and their many activities. He loved traveling and camping, especially in the mountains of Colorado. Royce was an active member of the Church of the Brethren and lived in adherence to Christian values.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 54 years, Susan, of Quinter; a sister, Mary Jo Crist Howe and husband, Chet, of Chandler, AZ; son, Jeff and wife, Dani, of McPherson; daughter, Linda Roesch and husband, Brian, of Quinter; son, John and wife, Amy, of Quinter; son, Matt and wife, Annette, of Wichita; son, Steven and wife, Mandi, of Lincoln, KS; eighteen grandchildren, Callie Wentling and husband, Josh, Jamie and Brady Crist, Zach, Tim, Aubrey and Jesse Roesch, Scott, Jaci, Brett and Kylie Crist, Andrew, Ryan, Jared and Megan Crist, Jennifer, Lindsay and Allison Crist; three nieces and three nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, LeMoyne.
Royce will be remembered for his wry sense of humor. He was always ready with a wisecrack and a grin. He enjoyed his Quinter life and many relatives and friends. He was loved by many and will be missed.
Services for Royce were held Monday, September 21, 2009, in the Quinter Church of the Brethren with Pastor Keith Funk officiating. Interment is in the Baker Township Cemetery.
