Royalyn Erickson was born October 2, 1943, to Art and Lois (Kaufman) Cochran on the family farm in Graham County. She passed away Sunday, November 20, 2011, in the Hays Medical Center at the age of 68.
Royalyn was the fifth child of seven children. She attended Pleasant Valley School in rural Trego County. She also attended high school at TCHS in WaKeeney, KS. Royalyn was married to Joe Berry and to this union was born daughters, Joleen and Paula Sue and one son, Terry. Later, Royalyn married Ernie Misner and they had one daughter, Margaret. Royalyn was later married to Ed Erickson who preceded her in death.
Royalyn was employed as a waitress and worked at many different cafes in WaKeeney. Some of the cafes include Susie's Cafe, The Little Red Schoolhouse, and the Triangle Truckstop. Many residents of WaKeeney and truckers will remember Royalyn filling their coffee cups. She enjoyed playing bingo, going to auctions, garage sales, gambling and "going to coffee" with her friends. She also enjoyed traveling to Farmington, NM to visit family and friends. Royalyn liked her cats, especially her beloved buddy, Yeller.
Survivors include her sister, Betty Jo Pennington of WaKeeney; son Terry Berry and wife, Tracey, of WaKeeney; two daughters, Joleen 'Jody' Stearley and friend, Dick Dykema, of WaKeeney and Margaret 'Maggie' Misner and friend, Tim Hacker, of Ogallah; five grandchildren, Shelby Berry, Hays, Damon and Daniel Leiker, of Hays, Justin Patterson of Omaha, NE, SaVannah Tollefsrud; eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
Royalyn was preceded in death by fiancé, Carroll Loeder; her parents; her brothers, Howard, Jerrold, Leon and Ronnie; one sister, Verna Lee Loomis; one daughter, Paula Sue Berry; and a nephew, Steve Cochran.
Visitation for Royalyn is 5-7 PM Friday, November 25, 2011 at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney. Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, November 26, also in Schmitt Funeral Home.
