Rosie Deines, age 93, passed away Friday, February 28, 2014 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney, KS. Rosie was born February 28, 1921 on a farm in Gove County, Kansas, the youngest child of Edward and Josephine (Fahey) Norton.
Rosie attended Gove County country schools, including Sunshine School and Hackberry School, where she graduated from 8th grade. On September 13, 1944, Rosie was united in marriage to Edward Deines; they shared 46 years of marriage. Edward preceded Rosie in death on July 21, 1991.
In addition to lovingly raising her family, Rosie worked in a variety of local businesses, beginning at Reineckers IGA in 1941 and retiring from Hogeland's Market in 1994 at the age of 73. Rosie lived for more than 10 years at Keeney Village; she so enjoyed her time there and treasured the many friendships she developed with neighbors. The love of her life was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rosie was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Rosie is survived by four children, Gene Deines and wife Kim of Hoxie, KS, Richard Deines and wife Liz of WaKeeney, KS, Bob Deines of Oklahoma City, OK, and Janelle Miller of WaKeeney, KS; as well as 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also special to Rosie is Vickie Deines of Hoxie, KS. Rosie's grandchildren (and great-grandchildren) include Abbey and husband Todd Nutsch (children, Gracyn and Hayden) of Wamego, KS, Jarrod Deines and wife Eldy (daughter, Lilia) of Tamuning, Guam, John Tindle and wife Rachel of Chandler, AZ, Jessica Deines (children Cheyenne and Tyler) of Wichita, KS, Myra and husband Bryon Wilson (children Riley, Gavin, and Avrie) of Wamego, KS, Brandon Deines and wife Vixen (son, Emmett) of Lawrence, KS, Brent Deines (daughter, Emma) of WaKeeney, KS, and Emily Deines (daughter, Aaliyah) of Overland Park, KS. Other survivors include sister-in-law, Alvena Dietz and brother-in-law, Roland Turner; and many nieces and nephews. Rosie was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; parents, Ed and Josephine Norton; brothers John, Eddie, Bill, James, and Jake Norton; and sister, Mary Norton.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in WaKeeney. Burial will be in the WaKeeney City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 4, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney, KS.
