Obituary

Rosalie Grace Shaeffer died at the age of 80, January 14, 2012, at the Gove County Medical Center in Quinter, KS.


Rosalie was born on the Dinkel family farm in Gove County on December 14, 1931, to Anton and Rosalia (Giebler) Dinkel. She was the seventh child in a family of eleven children.


She started school in the two-room schoolhouse at the Fairview School in Gove County and attended High School in Collyer and Quinter, graduating from Quinter High School in 1949. Her working career consisted of the IGA Grocery Store, substitute school bus driver for the Trego Unified School District 208, Emergency Medical Technician for Trego County and she baked wedding cakes with her sister, Rosemary Walt for several years. Rosalie retired as the Postmaster of the Collyer Post Office and has enjoyed the last several years retired with her husband, Jim. Rosalie was always an active member of the Collyer community. She was one of several who were instrumental in the organization of the Collyer Community Alliance (CCA). She also enjoyed serving cookies and coffee at the annual Memorial Day services at the Depot Square in Collyer. Rosalie was a longtime faithful member of St. Michaels Church in Collyer.

In 1949, she met Jim Shaeffer, a lineman for Frank Horton Construction Company out of Lamar, Missouri. They were married on June 24, 1950 in St. Michael Catholic Church. They had three children, Tim of Cottage Grove, OR, Dave of Santa Clara, CA, and Emmy Jo of Milpitas, CA. They are proud grandparents of twelve grandchildren, Diana, Kim, Kristy, Jammie, Stephanie, Joe, Sean, John, Paul, Breeanna, Danielle, and David; and ten great-grandchildren, Bryce, Bradly, Bryan, Braedyn, Tyler, Jessie, Sage, Lydia, Justin and Shawn.

Rosalie was loved and will be sadly missed by her family. She had ten brothers and sisters, Paul, Bertha, Leo, Beata, Marcella, Don, Alvin, Clarence, Bob and Rosemary. She leaves behind three brothers, Leo Dinkel and wife, Tillie, of Hays, Bob Dinkel and wife, Lori, of Collyer, Clarence Dinkel of Collyer; a sister, Rosemary Walt and husband, Ted, also of Collyer; a brother-in-law, Tony Malsom and wife, Flossie, of Great Bend; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Tony and Rosalia Dinkel; three brothers, Alvin, Paul and wife, Ann, and Don Dinkel and wife, Marion; and three sisters, Beata (Dinkel) Malsom, Marcella (Dinkel) and husband, Ted Malsom, Bertha (Dinkel) Knoll-Appelhans and husband, Carl Knoll and Joe Appelhans.

Visitation is 5-7 PM Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter, KS with a vigil service at 7:00 PM.

Funeral Mass is 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 18, 2012 in St. Michael Catholic Church at Collyer, KS
