Rodney Johnson, Riley, KS passed away on December 19, 2019, at the age of 67, at Stormont-Vail Health, Topeka, KS.
Rodney was born July 3, 1952, in Hays, KS, to George and Gladys (Gallison) Johnson. He attended school in Ellis and joined the Navy a few months before graduation. Rodney furthered his education in the Navy receiving his GED. Rodney served for three years aboard the USS Truckee (AO-147), a Neosho-class fleet oiler of the United States Navy. Upon return from the military, Rodney worked in the oil fields then worked for the City of Manhattan, Manhattan, KS, in Parks and Recreation for 26 years.
On April 4, 1981, he married Leana Rae Ebbert; they were together for 45 years and celebrated 38 years of marriage.
Rodney enjoyed hunting at Hamit Deer Camp, fishing, drones, motorcycle riding, knife making, flying kites, cook-offs, camping at Milford Lake, sunrises, sunsets and enjoying time antiquing with Leana.
Rodney is survived by his wife Leana; his mother Gladys; brothers, Randy Johnson (Rose) Ellis, Ronald Johnson (Lauree) Ellis; sister Rhonda (Monte) McKenzie, Minden, IA; brother-in-laws Kerry (Jolene) Ebbert, Ponca City, OK, Daryl (Peg) Ebbert, Liberty, MO; sister-in-law Monica Ebbert; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Rodney was preceded in death by his Father, nephew Jarrett Lee Johnson, and brother-in-law Kim Ebbert.
Visitation will be Friday, December 27, 2019, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.
Funeral Service will follow at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney at 1:30 PM, with burial to follow in the WaKeeney City Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the City of Manhattan, Parks, and Recreation. Donations may be sent to Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 N 12th, WaKeeney, KS 67672.
