Robert Roudolph Zerr was born September 15, 1943, in rural Gove County, KS, to the late Joseph Rudolph and Clara Helen (Denning) Zerr. He passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011 in rural Gove County at the age of 67.
He graduated from Gove High School in Gove, KS, with the class of 1961. He served during the Vietnam War in the United States Army from April 1965 until his honorable discharge on April 13, 1967.
On December 2, 1967, Bob married Mary Younger. To this union, three girls were born, Sheila, Darlene, and Kathy.
Bob was a road maintenance worker for the Gove County Road Department until his retirement in 2006. After his retirement, he kept busy by helping area farmers, and taking care of his friend's llamas.
He was a life member of the Randall Reid VFW #3449 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3774, both in WaKeeney. His hobbies included trap shooting, hunting, fishing, attending gun shows, and polka dancing. He was especially devoted to his grandchildren.
Survivors include three daughters, Sheila Alexander and husband, Lonnie, of Waunita, NE, Darlene Zerr of Wichita, Kathy Weigel and husband, Dean, of Sterling; three grandchildren, Lucas, Logan, and Lane Weigel; a close friend, Charlene Werth, of Park; three brothers, Melvin of Quinter, Albert and wife, Darla, of Hoxie, Richard and wife, Sharon, of Oakley; and a sister Pauline Katt and husband, Arthur, of Grainfield.
A brother, Fred Denning preceded him in death.
Visitation will be 5-7 PM Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM.
Services for Robert will be 10:00 AM, Monday, July 18, 2011, in Christ the King Catholic Church at WaKeeney, KS with Father Don Pfannenstiel officiating. Interment will be in the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at WaKeeney with Military Rites by Ft. Riley Color Guard.
