Robert Ralph Wessel was born in rural Thomas County, KS on October 3, 1941 to the late Joseph and Mary (Mindrup) Wessel. He passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010 in the Gove County Medical Center at Quinter, KS at the age of 68.
On July 17, 1982, Robert was united in marriage to Virginia Selensky in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Park. In 1976, he made Grainfield his home. Robert worked as a bricklayer for many years.
Robert was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, the American Legion George M. Scott Post #301, and the Knights of Columbus, all in Grainfield. He belonged to the Kansas Trap Shooters Association and the Amateur Trap Shooters Association.
His hobbies included trap shooting, pheasant hunting, and playing cribbage. He spent many active hours volunteering in the American Legion Post. His greatest joys were spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia of Grainfield; a daughter, Michelle Mullins and fiancé, Mike Simmons, of Tulsa, OK; three brothers, Charles Wessel and wife, Kathy, of Scott City, Dave Wessel and wife, Kay, Tom Wessel, all of Oakley; three sisters, Mary Ann Seymour and husband, Raymond, of Brighton, CO, Rita Wessel of Hays, Sister Bernadine Wessel of Korea; four grandchildren, Desiree Mullins, Dera Mullins, Dalton Dossey, Dakota Dossey; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Wessel of Oakley; and many nieces and nephews.
Those preceding him in death were three brothers, Frank, Leroy, and Ambrose Wessel; and a sister, Helen Nussen.
Visitation will be Friday, March 26, 2010 5:30 - 6:00 PM and 7:00-8:30 PM with Vigil Service at 6:00 PM at St. Agnes Educational Center in Grainfield, KS.
Services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday in St. Agnes Catholic Church at Grainfield, KS.
