Robert W. Bugbee was born on October 30, 1920 in Matheson, Co. to Cletus A. and Amy Holcomb Bugbee and passed away November 13, 2015 at the age of 95, in Lenexa, Kansas. Bob attended school in Steele City, Nebraska, and graduated from Steele City High School in 1938.
On November 17, 1941, he was united in marriage to Mildred G. Town in Seward, Nebraska. In May of 1942 he graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Business. In July of 1942 he was drafted into the United States Army and reported to Ft. Riley, Kansas, for basic training. In October of 1942 he was deployed overseas to North Africa and Palestine, which is now Israel. He served as a medic until his honorable discharge in 1945, as a staff sergeant.
Bob began his banking career in 1951 as an examiner for the state of Nebraska. In 1953, the family moved to Kearney, Nebraska, where he was a loan officer for Platte Valley National Bank. In 1957 they moved to Lewis, Kansas, and Bob took the position of bank manager and loan officer of the Home State Bank. In late 1962, Bob and Millie purchased the First National Bank of Quinter. The family moved there and joined him in the spring of 1963. Bob and Millie were residents of Quinter until 2010, when they moved to the Kansas City area.
Bob's first true love was his wife Millie and his family, followed by his bank, his employees and customers. He was dedicated to the betterment of the community and the area. Bob loved to read a good book as well as play a game of golf with his friends at his beloved Quinter Golf Course. He and Millie enjoyed many winters in Sun City, Arizona. Millie and Bob traveled around the world, and enjoyed many of the different regions.
Bob was a member of the Quinter United Methodist Church, Quinter Masonic Lodge, Kansas Bankers Assoc., and Quinter American Legion. He also served on the Quinter city council for two different terms.
He is survived by his wife, Millie; a son Roderick G. and his wife Kathy of Louisburg, Kansas; a daughter Kathy Barrett and her husband Terry of Florence, Oregon; five grandchildren, Scott Bugbee and wife Ronda, of Wichita, Kansas, Amy Reed, of Roeland Park, Kansas, Darin Bugbee, of Overland Park, Kansas, Andrea Valdez and husband Freddie, of Sedona, Arizona, and Amber Barrett and husband Fabian Hohmuth of Portland, Oregon; and 10 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, and two sisters Jeanne Allen, and Zelfa Bugbee. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 19, 2015, at the United Methodist Church, Quinter. Burial will be in the Baker Township Cemetery, Quinter.
Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home in Quinter.
