Robert "Bob" Griebel, age 57, of Collyer, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at his home. He was born May 31, 1956, in WaKeeney, KS to Paul R. and Melinda (Dinkel) Griebel.
Robert grew up on a dairy farm in Collyer with 10 brothers and sisters. He resided on the family farm near Collyer. He graduated from Trego Community High School in 1975. He graduated from Colby Community College and Fort Hays State University in 1979 with an Accounting degree. He moved to Pratt, KS and worked for an accounting firm. He also worked at the Sheridan County Hospital in Hoxie, KS until 1982. Robert moved back to the family farm and helped his Dad operate the dairy. In 1988, Robert and his brother took over the operation of the family dairy farm. In 2002, he decided to get out of the dairy business and continue with the farming and ranching operation. Robert loved animals and enjoyed being outside. He was an active member of the St. Michael Catholic Church. He was a board member of the Collyer Community Alliance. He enjoyed helping with weekly fish fry's during lent season at the Collyer American Legion. Robert enjoyed supporting the community, attending high school sporting events, and spending time with family. It didn't take long being around Robert to feel that he was a genuinely kind spiritual person.
Survivors include father, Paul R. Griebel of Hays; six brothers and four sisters, Francis Griebel and wife Becky of Lexington, KY, Steve Griebel and wife Jennifer of Collyer, KS, Roger Griebel and wife Robin of Hays, KS, Wayne Griebel and wife Darla of Amarillo, TX, Bill Griebel of Collyer, KS, Linda Schroeder and husband Keith of Hutchinson, KS, Marilyn Rebori and husband Timothy of Olathe, KS, Mary Adams and husband Tim of Quinlan, TX, Paula Kruse and husband Shannon of Topeka, KS, Joe Griebel of Hays, KS. He is survived by 10 nieces and nephews, Randi Griebel, Craig Griebel, Vanessa Schroeder, Ann Griebel, James Adams, Megan Griebel, Greg Adams, Austin Kruse, Leyton Rebori, and Justin Kruse.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Melinda Griebel.
A mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 16, 2013 at St. Michael Catholic Church of Collyer. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a parish vigil service immediately after at 7:00 p.m., both at the funeral home in WaKeeney.
