Obituary

Richard Schreiner was born November 17, 1920, in Morland, KS, to the late John and Beata (Knoll) Schreiner. He passed away, Sunday, June 5, 2011, in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital Long Term Care at WaKeeney at the age of 90.

As a child, Rich attended schools near St. Peter, KS. At the age of 19, he worked as the supervisor foreman for the Old Sheridan Lake
Building Project.


On October 20, 1941, Rich was united in marriage to Juliette Ferland in Damar, KS. He was called to serve in the United States Army during WWII on November 20, 1942. He was discharged in December of 1945.

In 1946, Rich started Schreiner Fuels in Ogallah and owned and operated the business until retiring in 2004. He thoroughly enjoyed his work, always visiting with customers, having gum in his pocket for the kids, and never just working from eight to five. He truly never watched or limited the hours he worked in a day.

Rich was a devoted family man. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren. His hobbies included baseball, traveling, and playing horseshoes.


Those left to mourn his passing, are his wife, Juliette, of Hays; three sons, Richard A. and wife, Lucy, of Tacoma, WA, Bernard and wife, Valree, of Ogallah, Alvin and wife, Danene, of Olathe, CO; four daughters, Deanne Level and husband, Jack, of Plano, TX, Terri Budzyna and husband, Stan, of Walnut Grove, MO, Nanette Woodall and husband, Joel, of WaKeeney, Cindy Werth and husband, Gary, of Quinter; two brothers, Walt Schreiner and wife, Genivieve, of Topeka, Ray Schreiner of WaKeeney; a sister Mary Webb of Aurora, CO; twenty-three grandchildren; and thirty great-grandchildren.

A brother Michael Schreiner preceded him in death.

Services are Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church in WaKeeney with Father Donald F. Pfannenstiel officiating. Burial will be in the Kansas Veteran's Cemetery with Military Honors by Fort Riley Color Guard.
