Richard D. "Bandit" Owen, age 67, of Ogallah, died Saturday, September 14, 2013 at his home. He was born February 24, 1946, in Monahans, Texas, the son of William Thomas and Catherine (McNett) Owen.

On June 23, 1973, Richard was united in marriage to Beverly Combs, in Conroe, Texas. She passed away April 1, 2008. They were married 34 years. On August 15, 2009, Richard married Clarese Mong, in Ogallah. She survives of the home. Richard was a welder and truck driver. He enjoyed doing anything mechanical, and cherished time spent with grandchildren. He was known to always open up his home to anyone in need. Many people considered him a parent or grandparent because of his kind and giving personality.

Richard is survived by his wife, Clarese, of Ogallah; three children Ramsey D. Owen of Hays, George T. Owen of Bison, and Teresa C. Bruce of Hoisington; two brothers Carroll Owen of Hoisington and George Owen of Warrenton, Oregon; two sisters Betty Lipton and Shirley Conrad of Atwood; a sister-in-law Barbara Owen of Seward; and 21 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife (Beverly), two sons William J. Owen and Michael K. Owen, a brother Billy Grant Owen, and a grandson Seth Contreras.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Ogallah Christian Church. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Stafford County.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney.
