Obituary

Richard D. Lovin, age 69, of Ellis, Kansas, passed away on June 25, 2019 at Good Samaritan Society, Hays, Kansas. He was born in Quinter, Kansas on April 8, 1950, and graduated high school in Hoxie, Kansas. Rich continued on to Colby Community College and graduated from the LPN program. He was one of the first male LPN's in the state of KS to graduate from the program.

Rich was united in marriage to Patricia Hankins on January 14, 1994.  They enjoyed 25 ½ years of marriage together.  He worked at several agencies in the healthcare industry for the past 48 yrs.  His last place of employment was at Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas, in Hays.  Rich retired in March of 2014.

Fishing and hunting were among his favorite hobbies.  He also enjoyed sports, especially Kansas State University football and the Kansas City Chiefs.  Rich cherished time spent with family.

Richard is survived by his wife, Pat of the home in Ellis; children, Kathy Zahn of WaKeeney, Kansas; James and Bonnie Brungardt of Victoria, Kansas, Danielle Anderson and Joe Knoll of Ellis, and Bill Hankins and Skyler of WaKeeney; grandchildren, Whitney Bullock, Dustin Zahn, and Logan Zahn of WaKeeney, Jimmy, Eric, & Cooper Brungardt of Victoria, Isabella & Braiden Anderson of Ellis, and Jordon & Billie Knoll of Ellis; siblings, Bob Lovin and of Manhattan, Kansas, Joyce Lovin of Manhattan, Rex Lovin of Salina, Kansas, Mary Phillips of Hugoton, Melvin Lovin of Hoxie, Cindy Galloway of Carbondale, Kansas, and Jack Lovin of Wichita; and many nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters; his parents; and a son, Scott Lovin.

Services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 28, 2019 at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.  Burial will be in the WaKeeney City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to service time at the funeral home on Friday.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Richard Lovin Memorial Fund.  Donations made to the fund may be sent to Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 North 12th, WaKeeney, KS 67672.

For those attending the service, the family encourages you to wear either Kansas State Wildcats or Kansas City Chiefs shirts.
