Randy Charles Yowell, 65, died on February 18, 2013 at his home in Quinter, Kansas. He was born on January 21, 1948 to Harold and Marjorie (Murray) Yowell in Grainfield, Kansas. Shortly after his birth they moved to Russell, Kansas and then to Great Bend, Kansas. He excelled in sports in Great Bend and was named All-State Football, All-State Basketball and All-State Track and Field his senior year. Randy graduated from Great Bend High School with the class of 1966 and was senior class president. He was a member of a band called "The Elements". He went on to Wichita State University on a football scholarship and eventually graduated from Fort Hays State University with a Business degree. He ran for 1st District U.S. Congress in 1977 and lost to Keith Sebelius. He was well known for his writing and had a weekly column called "The Treasure Ranch" in the Gove Advocate for many years. He wrote a book called "Beneath the Cantaloupe Moon" that was about Sheriff Stackhouse in Gove County Kansas. It is still being published today. He enjoyed Western Kansas History and shared it in his writings.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Marjorie Yowell. Survivors include his daughter Kallie Hapgood of Darien, Connecticut. Two Brothers; Skip Yowell and his wife Winnie Kingsbury of Saint Peter, Kansas and Lindsey Yowell and his wife Lynn Yowell of Seattle, Washington. One Sister; Diana Crouch and her husband Larry Crouch of Saint Peter, Kansas. Three nephews; Lindsey Yowell Jr. of Duvall, Washington, Greg Odegard of Houghton, Michigan and Layton Whipple of Beeler, Kansas. Three Nieces; Jennifer Langley of Costa Mesa, California, Carly Wise of Parker, Colorado and Quinn Yowell of Tampa Bay, Florida.

To honor Randy's wishes, there will be no public services or visitation.
