Pete Glassman was born in rural Ellis County, KS on August 9, 1919, to Anton and Katherine (Paul) Glassman. He passed away Sunday, October 11, 2009 in the Gove County Medical Center at Quinter at the age of 90.
He attended rural Banner School District in Trego County. Pete later served in the Army during WWII. He spent over thirty-seven months in the South Pacific earning two purple hearts during this time.
Farming was Pete's life after the service. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Collyer.
Survivors include a brother, Tony Glassman of Wheatridge, CO; and nieces and nephews, Alex Riedel, Father Richard Riedel, Tony Riedel, Ted Riedel, Alfred Riedel, Mary Ann Blue, Paul Riedel, Joe Riedel, Catherine Wessel, Janet Geist, Virginia Mix, Cathy Mitchell and Norbert Leiker.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Frank Glassman; three sisters, Emma Leiker, Pauline Glassman, Anna Riedel; and nephews, Alvin Riedel, Elmer Riedel, Eugene Riedel, Marvin Leiker, Emil Leiker, Gilbert Leiker, and Tony Glassman, Jr.
Services for Pete were held Thursday, October 15, 2009 in St. Michael Catholic Church at Collyer with Father Donald F. Pfannenstiel officiating. Interment is in St. Michael Catholic
Cemetery.
