Patty Jo Chestnut, age 82, passed away with family at her side, on November 26,2018, at the Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska. She was a former resident of Quinter, Kansas.  Patty was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on December 5, 1935, to Fred and Eunice (Dye) Rubert.

Patty was the oldest of 4 siblings; brother Jim, and twin sisters Rosalee and Rosetta.  She lost her hearing to a childhood illness and attended the Olathe School of the Deaf.  There, she met her beloved husband J.C.  They were united in marriage August 20, 1960, in Parsons, Kansas.  He predeceased his cherished wife in 2003. She is survived, and will be dearly missed, by her children, Benny Chestnut, of Quinter, Kansas, Jack and wife Pam Chestnut of Marengo Illinois, Sandra Tietz and husband Chuck Tietz of Omaha, Nebraska. Patty was blessed with six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Patty could always be found in her kitchen; it was her sanctuary and oasis. Her family fondly recalls the homemade breads, pizza and waffles saturated in Patty's own special syrup recipe. She could make a gourmet meal out of any fish and/or game that was presented.  She worked at the Quinter schools as a baker for over 20 years, before retiring and leaving generations of Quinter natives longing for the aroma and taste of her fresh baked bread.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2018, at the Church of the Brethren, Quinter.  Burial will follow at Baker Township Cemetery, Quinter.

Visitation will be Sunday evening at Schmitt Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Patty Chestnut Memorial Fund.  Contributions made to the fund may be sent to Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 S Main Street, Quinter, Kansas 67752.
