Oneita Mae McWilliams was born at home NW of Quinter in rural Gove County, KS, the fourth child of the late John and Mary Ethel (McKnight) Chestnut. She passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2012, in the Gove County Medical Center at Quinter at the age of 91.
She graduated from Quinter High School with the class of 1939, and attended Fort Hays State University. She worked as a secretary for Wallace County High School in Sharon Springs for most of her career.
On December 18, 1945, Oneita was united in marriage to Donald Dale McWilliams. They celebrated there 66th anniversary in December of 2011.
She was a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, Quinter, KS. She was also a member of the Pandora Club, the Garden Club, and numerous church groups. In her spare time, she enjoyed wheat weaving, collecting spoons and coins. Over the years, Oneita and Don traveled to many K-State games. They enjoyed traveling in general and especially their cruise to Alaska. She loved to entertain and treasured the times spent with family, children, and grandchildren. Everytime her boys would come visit her and Don, she insisted they sang to her. She loved listening to them sing.
Oneita is survived by her husband, Don, of Quinter; four sons, Dennis and wife, Angie, Salina, Ron and wife, Ann, Salina, Rob and wife, Patti, of Olathe, Larry and wife, Margaret, of Oklahoma City, OK; thirteen grandchildren, Erin Scott and husband, Luke, Misty Cunningham, Bryan Weaverling and wife Tabitha, Jeremy McWilliams, Donita McLeLand and husband Aaron, Nicholas McWilliams, Jonathan McWilliams and wife Millicent, Mindy McWilliams, Tim McWilliams and wife Stephanie, Sarah McWilliams, Caleb McWilliams, Zachary McWilliams, and Kendall McWilliams; five great-grandchildren, River Weaverling, Ava Weaverling, Alayna Scott, Ainsley Scott, and Eiley McWilliams; and a sister, Vernice McBurney, of Orlando, FL.
Preceding her in death was a brother, Calvin Chestnut; two sisters, Vera Rice and Madeline Chestnut; and a granddaughter, Bridgett McWilliams.
Services will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in rural Sheridan County at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 14, 2012.
Vistitation will be at Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter, KS on Friday, April 13, 2012 from 5:00pm-7:00pm.
