Olinda Wiedeman was born November 16, 1915 on the family farm in rural Trego County, KS. She passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2009 in the Trego Manor at WaKeeney, KS at the age of 93.
As a child, she attended Rural Benisch School in Trego County.
On October 14, 1937, she married Alvin Wiedeman in Zion Lutheran Church at Trego Center, KS. Together they farmed for many years. Olinda never shied away from hard work and she operated any farm equipment she was allowed to use. Alvin passed away January 14, 1995.
Olinda was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and WELCA. She also belonged to the Stitch and Cackle Club, as she enjoyed the get-togethers of sharing stories, food, and sewing. Olinda was an avid sewer as she made all of her children's clothing. She also loved gardening, working outside and caring for her chickens. She treasured the times spent with her family.
Survivors include two sons, Del Wiedeman and wife, Pat, of WaKeeney, Larry Wiedeman of LaCrosse; six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Alvin; a daughter, Mary Ann Pearson; a daughter-in-law, Angie Wiedeman; three brothers, Ferd, Emanuel, and Alvin Rohn; and six sisters, two infants, Amelia Dietz, Pauline Dietz, Esther Stricker, and Edna Ziegler.
Services for Olinda were held, Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney with Pastor Jon Anderson officiating. Burial was in the WaKeeney City Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church or Trego Manor and may be sent in care of Schmitt Funeral Home.
