Norma Jean Harvey, age 88, died on October 3, 2023, at Grisell Memorial Hospital, Ransom, Kansas. She was born on September 14, 1935, in WaKeeney, Kansas the daughter of Richard and Ila (Dorman) Phillips.
Norma's father worked with the railroad and the family lived in several area towns, Collyer, Tribune, Utica, and WaKeeney, as Norma grew up. She was a 1953 graduate of Utica High School where she met Allen "Toad" Harvey. They were married on August 23, 1953, in Utica. Except for the years he was in the Navy the two were inseparable. Norma and Toad lived in many places for his work, until they settled in Buffalo, Wyoming where they purchased and ran a lodge, "The Pines" for years. After selling "The Pines" they moved to WaKeeney and traveled as much as they could in their motorhome. Norma Jean also loved to oil paint, especially flowers, and create other "crafty" items.
Norma is survived by her sister, Vicki James, of Denver Colorado; three sisters-in-law, Letha, Wanda, and Doris; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen, on July 8, 2015, her parents, and her sister, Gwen McCartee.
A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, October 10, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, WaKeeney.
Memorial Contributions may be given to the Utica Methodist Church, Utica, Kansas.
