Nora Sarah Mai was born November 3, 1921, in Hoisington, KS to Delbert L. and Julia C. (Matal) Field. She passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2011, in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital at WaKeeney, KS at the age of 89.


On January 8, 1941, Nora married Poe L. McClanahan and later divorced. She married Herbert Mai in 1968 and divorced.


In 1972, Nora moved to Santa Anna, CA where she was employed as an insurance claims adjuster. She returned to WaKeeney, KS in 1990.

Nora was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and former Randall Reid VFW Auxiliary member. Nora enjoyed needlecrafts, jigsaw puzzles, reading, and bingo.


Survivors include two sons, James (Rick) McClanahan of Las Vegas, NV, Gary McClanahan and wife, Mary Jo, of WaKeeney; two granddaughters, Amy McClanahan of Ft. Worth, TX, and Jesse McClanahan-Ruhinda of Iowa City, IA; two great-grandchildren, Abbott and Bennett McClanahan-Ruhinda; daughter-in-law, Chanta McClanahan; and one brother, Maurice Field, Stockton, CA.


She was preceded in death by her parents and son, J.D. McClanahan on May 13, 1990.


Visitation will be 9-11 A.M. on Friday, September 2, 2011 at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney with a Graveside Service to be 11:00 A.M. at WaKeeney City Cemetery.
