Obituary

Nicholas "Nick" Earl Schamberger, 40, of Ellis, Kansas, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2026.

He was born on February 25, 1986, in Manhattan, Kansas, to Robert and Pamela (Jones) Schamberger. Nick grew up surrounded by family and friends who would come to know his quick wit, strong personality, and unmistakable sense of humor. He attended Trego Community High School in WaKeeney, Kansas, graduating with the Class of 2004.

Following high school, Nick answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served for four years. During his time aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt, he formed lifelong friendships and became known for his humor and ability to keep spirits high. In one memorable moment, Nick, along with the only other seaman from Kansas, managed to convince much of the ship that every town in Kansas had its own yellow brick road—a story that perfectly captures his playful personality and gift for storytelling.

After returning home, Nick dedicated many years to working for USD #208, where he built strong relationships and left a lasting impression on those he worked with. He was currently employed by A&A Coors in Hays, Kansas, where he continued to be known as a dependable coworker and someone who could always bring a laugh to the day.

Nick found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time on the golf course, casting a line while fishing, and unwinding with a good cabernet. He had a natural ability to bring people together, often at the center of laughter, stories, and what he would call "shenanigans." Above all, he cherished time spent with those he loved.

He was especially proud of his role as a dog dad to his beloved "gremlin," BB, who held a special place in his heart and was a constant companion.

Nick's love for his family was evident in both big and small ways. He shared a unique and playful bond with his dad, Rob, whom he affectionately nicknamed "the angry little gnome." This nickname sparked years of gnome-themed gifts and became a cherished inside joke that will continue to bring smiles to those who knew them both.

Those who knew Nick will remember his loyalty, his humor, and his ability to make any moment brighter. His presence was one that could not be ignored, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Nick is survived by his longtime girlfriend, Holly Younger of Ellis, Kansas; his parents, Rob and Pam Schamberger of Collyer, Kansas; his sisters, Candice (Jesse) Beuttenmuller of WaKeeney, Kansas, and Randi Schamberger of Hays, Kansas; and his nephews, Odin and Ezra Beuttenmuller. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends, all of whom he loved dearly.
