Obituary

Myrtle L. Larson, 89, of McPherson (formerly of WaKeeney) died Wednesday, March 12, 2014. Mrs. Larson was born Myrtle L. Case on Dec. 20, 1924, to Roy J. and Myrtle (Hicks) Case in Bent County, Colorado.

Due to the early deaths of her parents, Myrtle was adopted at the age of three by Walter and Ollie Schaumburg of Brownell.  She fondly referred to them as Mom and Dad.  She received her schooling in Ness County, graduating with the class of 1942 from Brownell High School.  She was baptized in the Lutheran faith at Elim Lutheran Church in Marquette on March 9, 1947.  It was there that she met and married Bernard L. Larson on March 21, 1947.  This union was blessed with four children.  They farmed in the Marquette area until 1961, when they moved to WaKeeney.  Myrtle worked at the County Clerk's office for eighteen years, retiring in 1984.  Myrtle lived her life the only way she knew how, in quiet dedication to her God, husband, family, and church, where she served faithfully.  She always gave whatever was needed of her.

Myrtle and Bernard did some traveling after retirement, but home and family were foremost in their lives.  It was there that the greatest measure of love and concern sustained them on their remaining earthly journey. Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband Bernard, in 1997; her parents; and two brothers, infant LeRoy and Kenneth in 1978.  She is survived by two sons, Kevin (Vicki) of Olathe and Milo (Terri) of McPherson; two daughters, Dawn (David) Fry of St. Francis and Jone (Mike) Kuntz of Quinter; seven grandchildren, Denise (Kip) Miller, D.J. (Kristin) Fry Jr., Jared Larson, Kyle (Adam) Soeken, Broc Kuntz, Callie Kuntz and Katie Kuntz; two stepgrandchildren, Kathy Ramsey and Spencer Ramsey; and four great-grandchildren, Ella Miller, Emily Miller, Allie Soeken, and Elynn Soeken.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of WaKeeney.  Burial will be in the WaKeeney City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from  5:30-7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
