Obituary

Michael Anthony Grandison, 24, died in an auto accident on June 11, 2011 near Quinter, Kansas. He was born in Salina, Kansas on May 11, 1987 to Tony (deceased) and Tami Grandison.

The family moved to Iowa where Michael attended early elementary school in Ankeny. Returning to Kansas in 1998, he attended school in Quinter where he graduated in May of 2005. Michael was active in band, vocal music, and Scholars Bowl. He was a four time state qualifier on the Quinter Forensics squad, and Student Body President. Michael loved competitive sports and participated in football, basketball, track, golf, and baseball. He was also a member of the Church of the Brethren Youth Group.

Michael loved watching sports and was a loyal fan of the Minnesota Vikings, Oklahoma Sooner football, and University of Kansas basketball. The highlights of his summers included MAYB basketball and attending Brethren Church Camp Colorado, first as a camper and later as a camp counselor and mentor. He was a movie buff, video gamer, and jokester. His wit, smile, and bear hugs brightened the lives of many.

Michael is survived by his mother, Tami Grandison, Quinter; his brother, Graham Jones, his niece, Cooper Rae, Waukee, Iowa; his sister, Melisa Grandison, McPherson, Kansas, and his aunt, Lu Neher. Extended family includes Curtis Zook and sons Derek and James, Lincoln, Nebraska; David and Charis Zook and daughters Zoe and Kira, Marburg, Germany; Sheila Lucia and daughter Cora, Hutchinson, Kansas; and Timothy Zook, Lincoln, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his father.

A memorial service in celebration of Michael's life takes place on Friday, June 24, 2011 at 10:00 am at Quinter Church of the Brethren, followed by a meal in the fellowship hall. Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter, is handling cremation and other arrangements.
