Obituary

Mary Josephine Hile Jamison was born September 25, 1918, at Las Vegas, NM, to the late Joseph Nicholas and Anna Laura (Mayer) Hile. She passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010, in the Gove County Medical Center in Quinter, KS, at the age of 91.


Mary Jo graduated from Grant High School and attended business college in Denver, CO for two years.


On May 10, 1941, Mary Jo was united in marriage to Wilford Wilson Jamison in St. Barnabas Episcopal Church at Denver, CO. In May of 1957, Mary Jo and Wilford adopted two children, David and Barbara. Wilford passed away, July 11, 1997.


After moving to Quinter with her husband in May of 1943, she was active in community and club affairs and in the Quinter Church of the Brethren. She was also a member of The Mother Church, the First Church of Christ Scientist in Boston, MA, John Athey Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Lincoln County NM, Harrisonburg-Rockingham Co., Virginia Historical Societies, Fellowship of Brethren Genealogists, and the Pandora Club.

In her spare time, Mary Jo enjoyed reading; studying history and working on genealogy.


Those left to mourn her passing are a daughter, Barbara Williams and husband, Bobby, of Watonga, OK; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and three nieces and nephews.

Those preceding her in death were her husband, Wilford; a son David Jamison; a grandchild, Karen Wilhoit; a brother Paul Hile; and a sister Eleanor Meadows.

Visitation for Mary Jo will be Friday, July 9, 2010 6-8 PM at Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter, KS. Services will be Saturday at 10:00 AM in Church of the Brethren at Quinter.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Jay Johnson Public Library or the Flat Creek, Kentucky Church of the Brethren and can be sent in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 S Main, Quinter, KS 67752.
