Obituary

Mary Ann Frances Schneider, 91, passed away on November 1, 2026, at Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital Long Term Care. She was born April 16, 1935, in Trego County, Kansas, to Reinhart and Anna (Lichtsinn) Schneider.

Mary Ann was baptized on May 26, 1935, and confirmed on March 21, 1948, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she remained an active and dedicated member throughout her life. She served as Sunday School Secretary for over twenty years. On Saturdays, she volunteered her time doing secretarial work for the church, compiling and printing the weekly church bulletins using the old mimeograph method. She also sang in the church choir.

Mary Ann began her education at Rinker School, District No. 12, before transferring to WaKeeney Grade School in 1948. She graduated with the Class of 1953 from Trego Community High School.

Following graduation, Mary Ann worked for a short period of time for Dr. R. B. Osborn before beginning employment at the County Superintendent's Office in 1957. In May of 1966, following the unification of the school districts, she transferred to Unified School District 208. She continued working at the Unified School District Office as Clerk of the Board of Education until her retirement in July of 1994.

Mary Ann enjoyed music throughout her life and taught herself to play both the piano and accordion. She generously shared her musical talents by performing once a month at Sing-Alongs for residents of WaKeeney Manor and the hospital's Long Term Care. She also enjoyed music simply for the pleasure of listening and performing for others.

An animal lover from childhood, Mary Ann always had a special cat or dog in her life. From her early years until moving to Assisted Living, she treasured the companionship of her beloved pets. She also enjoyed spending time in the country, walking with her adopted dog and appreciating the wonders of nature.

Mary Ann is survived by her sister, Charlotte Wanker, along with friends and the employees and residents of Assisted Living and Long Term Care who became an important part of her life.
