Martha Jean McDaniel, 79, Quinter, KS died Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Hays Medical Center. She was born September 13, 1930 in Granite City, IL to Floyd and Beulah (Medlin) Cochran.

Jean married Donald W. McDaniel, Sr. on February 20, 1954 in Tunica, MS. He preceded her in death on December 9, 1990.


She was a homemaker, owner/operator of Osmond Cafe, Osmond, NE, and an employee of Quinter Dairy Queen. She enjoyed reading and watching and attending sporting events for children and grandchildren.


Survivors include three sons, Donald W. McDaniel, Jr., Charles City, IA, James K. McDaniel and wife, Connie, Quinter, Richard L. McDaniel, Overland Park; two sisters, Judith Free, Granite City, IL, Charlotte Daughthary, Mayfield, KY; six grandchildren, Trenton McDaniel, Turner McDaniel, Christopher McDaniel, Jessica Reling, Jacob McDaniel, and Caitlyn McDaniel; and two great-grandchildren, Eli and Parker Reling.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and an infant brother and sister.

A memorial service for Martha will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter, KS. Inurnment will be in the Osmond Cemetery in Osmond, NE at a later date.
