Obituary

Martha (Marty) Mae Tuttle passed away, surrounded by her family, on Wed., July 3, 2013, at the Gove County Medical Center in Quinter, KS. She was born October 15, 1932 in rural Trego County to Joseph and Mary (Down) Carlson. Marty was the fourth of five children. She was 80 years old.


Marty attended Pioneer School, Valley School and graduated in 1950 from Trego County High School in WaKeeney, KS. She met Delbert Emmert Tuttle and they were married January 25, 1951 in Raton, New Mexico. To this union four children were born: Dennis (Br. Jeremiah, OSB), Scott, Melissa and Jay Sheldon. Delbert and Marty lived their entire married lives in Quinter, KS.


Marty was a member of the Quinter Church of the Brethren and the Valhalla Club. She enjoyed sewing, painting, word puzzles, gardening, cooking, and canning, but she especially loved her family and grandchildren.


During Marty's life she worked at Hendricks Funeral Home in WaKeeney. She was a bookkeeper for Ralph M. Tuttle and Sons, Quinter. She worked for Custom Design, a cap factory in Quinter. She was a Certified Nurses Aide and a loving caregiver for many elderly neighbors and those in need.


In March of 2006 Marty suffered her first stroke which left her in need of other's care. Even though she wasn't able to speak in the usual way, she still expressed her thoughts to those she loved.


Survivors include her husband Delbert of the home; children Dennis (Br. Jeremiah, OSB), Conception, MO; Scott and wife Tina Tuttle of Hays, KS; Melissa Riegel of Collyer, KS; and Jay Sheldon Tuttle of Kansas City, MO. A sister, Janice Peterson of Las Cruces, New Mexico; and two sisters-in-law, Oneita Press of Quinter and Roma Tuttle of Brigantine, NJ. Grandchildren Erica Summers and husband Ben, Hays; Justin Tuttle and wife Yoshika, Aliso Viejo, CA; and Austin Tuttle, Lakewood, CO; Jason Riegel and wife Aimee, Lawrence, KS; Abra Riegel, Claflin, KS; and Bryce Riegel, of Great Bend, KS. Great-grandchildren Rylie Rowland and Emerie Summers, Hays; Jonah and Jude Riegel, Lawrence; and Nathan and Jordan Tuttle, Aliso Viejo, CA; and many nieces, nephews and friends.


Marty was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Richard Carlson of Paw Paw, MI and Duane Carlson of WaKeeney, and a sister Ruth Schneider of Trego Center, KS.


Memorial Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013, at the Quinter Church of the Brethren, Pastor Keith Funk officiating. Inurnment will be in the Baker Township Cemetery in Quinter, KS. There will be no visitation as her body was cremated.
