Mark E. Pfannenstiel, 63, Wakeeney, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016, at Hays Medical Center.
He was born June 30, 1953, in Sioux Falls, SD to Edwin A. and Isabel (Kuhl) Pfannenstiel. He graduated from Thomas More Prep in 1971 and from Fort Hays State University with a B.S. in Business. Mark was employed by the U.S. Post Office in Hays and was the Postmaster in Sublette and WaKeeney for 33 years. On October 30, 1982, he married Gayle Schafer in Ellis.
Mark's two biggest loves were golf and his grandsons. He was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed playing with as well as attending his children's athletic events. He also enjoyed grilling, telling "bad" jokes, and playing cards with his family. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Wakeeney; daughter Lindsay Bittle (Erich), Garden City; sons Matthew, Ryan, Scott, and Bradley, all of Wakeeney; his parents, Hays; two brothers, David, Hays, and Paul (Tally) Kansas City, MO; two sisters Loraine Pfannenstiel and Mary Poulson (Thomas), all of Lakewood, CO; and three grandsons, Riley, Taylor and Cameron Bittle.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 412 North 9th Street, WaKeeney, KS 67672. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis, KS.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6:30 pm on Friday, Nov. 11, with a Vigil following at 6:30 pm at the funeral home.
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, memorial contributions are suggested to the Mark E. Pfannenstiel Memorial Fund, with the memorials being used for a bench in his memory at Big Creek golf course and to benefit his grandson's education fund.
