Ludwig Michael Zerr was born on a farm south of Park, KS, on October 3, 1920, to the late Adam M. and Josephine (Baumann) Zerr. He passed away Sunday, June 12, 2011 in the Hays Medical Center at the age of 90.
He went to a country Grade School north of Park and attended High School in Hoxie. He enlisted in the Navy Reserve Unit and was called to active duty. In mid 1942, he was honorably discharged and returned to Park.
On May 8, 1946, Ludwig married Frances Selensky in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Park. To this union, a son, Dean Adam was born on August 10, 1947.
During his lifetime, he was a farmer near Park and west of Gove, co-owner of a motel in Atwood for thirty-three years and an appraiser for Rawlins and Rush Counties. He retired and moved to Hays in 1988. Ludwig liked to hunt, fish and travel. Ludwig and Frances traveled through forty-eight states, Canada, Austria and Germany.
He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the American Legion, 40 & 8 Club, the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus and the Sunflower Polka Club, all in Hays.
He is survived by his son, Dean; two sisters, Helen Urban of Topeka, Josephine Tatro of Oswago; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His wife, Frances; three sisters, Elizabeth Pfannenstiel, Barbara Dickman, Rose Uhrich; and six brothers, Adam Jr., Michael, Peter, Paul, George, and Martin Zerr preceded him in death.
Services for Ludwig will be Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Park, KS with Father James Thomas officiating. Interment is in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation is 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter, KS with Vigil Service at 7:00 PM.
