Louise Marie Nowlin was born March 17, 1911 in rural Trego County, KS, to the late Fritz and Sophia (Schilling) Buchholz. She passed away Sunday, August 15, 2010 in the Trego Manor in WaKeeney at the age of 99.

As a child, she attended schools in rural Trego County.


On June 6, 1926, Louise was united in marriage to Cleo DeLay Nowlin in WaKeeney. Cleo passed away July 9, 1983.

Louise was a member of Randall Reid VFW Auxiliary in WaKeeney for 56 years and worked as a Gold Coat for the Senior Companion Program for 9 years.


She enjoyed gardening and yardwork, still pulling weeds at the age of 89. Louise loved visiting and never knew a stranger. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards and fishing, which she surely did every Mother's Day. Making sugar bread was a must when she knew the grandchildren would stop to see her.


Those left to mourn her passing are two sons, Robert 'Bob', and Dave Nowlin; two daughters, Betty Rodie and Vera McQueen, all of WaKeeney; nineteen grandchildren, Kenny, Bill, and Tony Nowlin, Tim Babcock, Ruth Blackwill, Leslie Smith, Stacy Nowlin, Don, Les, and Dennis Nowlin, Ronnie, Terry, and Randall McQueen, Rona Yeadon, Kenny and Richard Thomas, Louetta Slater, Linda Thomas, Rita Thomas; thirty great-grandchildren; and twenty-two great-great-grandchildren.


Those preceding her in death were her husband, Cleo; a son, Charles Nowlin; three grandchildren, Chuck Nowlin, Mark Thomas, Lila Klitzke; five brothers, Henry, Herman, Fred, Gussie, Albert Buchholz; and two sisters, Emma Stithem and Annie Broomfield

Services for Louise will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, August 19, 2010 in Schmitt Funeral Home at WaKeeney. Interment will be in WaKeeney City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 18th 6-8 PM in Schmitt Funeral Home at WaKeeney.
