Obituary

Lorne George Press was born June 11, 1918, on a farm west of Grainfield, KS, to the late John Walter and Martha Caroline (Fischer) Press. He passed away, Monday, March 14, 2011, in the Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care at Quinter at the age of 92.

As a young boy, he attended the Wilson Grade School in Grainfield, graduated from Grainfield High School with the class of 1937; and attended welding school in Wichita, KS. He served in the army during World War II.

On July 25, 1946, Lorne married Oneita Tuttle in the parsonage of the Church of the Brethren in Quinter.

Lorne worked for Cessna in Wichita as a welder. He later was a partner with his brother, Victor, in Press Brother's Farming for over 50 years and also was co-owner and operator of the Quinter Body Shop for 43 years.

He was a member of the Church of the Brethren, the American Legion Post #164, both of Quinter, a member of the Wheatland VFW Post #2864 in Grinnell, a lifetime member of the 16th Armored Division Association of 395th AFA. But the most enjoyable was being a 'devoted' member of the afternoon Q-Inn Coffee Club!

Listening to good old country music was his favorite pastime. Lorne and Oneita attended country music shows wherever they could. They also attended numerous air shows as Lorne always wished he could have been a pilot. Lorne also enjoyed camping and fishing. In 1958, he took on the project of building a speed boat which he named "Tiny Mite". To this day, it is still enjoyed by the family.

Survivors include wife, Oneita, of the home; a son, Doug Press and wife, Marcia; all of Quinter; two daughters, Marsha Lang and husband, Gary, of Westminster, CO and Kendra Delzeit and husband, Roy, of Hays, KS; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Callie and Jeff Brawner, Bailey, Brooke, and BrieAnn, Megan and Spencer Herrman, Scarlett and Adaline, Garret Press and son Brigham and Lauren Hargitt and daughters, Ryleigh and DeLaney; Jordan Lang and fiancé Michelle Miles and Jarrod Lang and fiancé Brenda Osterhaus; Robbie and Angela Delzeit, Sheila, Nikki, and Braydon Delzeit; a sister, Lola Crosswhite of San Diego, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
