Obituary

Lifelong WaKeeney resident, Lloyd "Lloydy" L. Hafliger, past away Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney. He was 83 years of age. Lloyd was born January 7, 1930, in rural Trego County, the son of George and Sara Abbey (Mummert) Hafliger.

Lloyd served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On July 23, 1954, he married Joyce Maria Black. They were married eleven years, until her death on April 17, 1965. On February 5, 1971, Lloyd was united in marriage to Joanne Louise Smith in Jetmore. They were married 42 years. He worked as a carpenter for many years. For over 20 years he worked as a skilled mechanic, fixing cars and trucks at the Standard station in WaKeeney. After his youngest son was born, Lloyd went to work in the oil field, where he worked as a deck hand. He loved old westerns, especially those that starred John Wayne. Lloyd had a known talent for fixing up old cars, and was always "tinkering" with something mechanical. He enjoyed collecting guns.

Lloyd will be dearly missed by his wife of the family home; three sons Glenn and wife Penny, Jason and wife Maria, and Larry, all of WaKeeney; two daughters Nancy and husband Daniel Ochs of Boliver, Missouri, and Penny Demel of Great Bend; nine grandchildren Jacki Dean-Swineberg of Camden, Missouri, Amanda Strader of Glensdale, Colorado, Morgan Ochs of Mt. Hope, Arkansas, Clint Hafliger of Manhattan, Ashley Garrett of WaKeeney, Rabecca Demel of Great Bend, Phillip Demel of Great Bend, Abigail Hafliger of Ellis, and Alyssa Hafliger of Ellis; ten great-grandchildren; and a special niece Jennifer and husband Richard Hanks and their daughter Kristen. He was preceded in death by his first wife; his parents; five brothers Elmer, Walter, Leonard, Calvin, and Ralph; and one infant sister.

Memorial graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, August 26, 2013 at WaKeeney City Cemetery.

There will be no visitation as his body was cremated.
