Linus Waldman, 85, a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and dedicated cultivator of the land, passed away on March 12, 2025, at Allen County Regional Hospital in Iola, Kansas. Born on February 29, 1940, in Park, Kansas, to Pius and Anna (Loevenstein) Waldman, Linus grew up with a deep-rooted appreciation for hard work, faith, and family. On September 4, 1965, he married the love of his life, Antonia Zerr, in Grainfield, Kansas, and together they built a life rich in love, tradition, and dedication. He lived in Park, Kansas, most of his life until moving to Iola, Kansas, to be closer to family.

Farming was more than a livelihood for Linus—it was his passion. He took great pride in cultivating the land, primarily growing and harvesting wheat and milo, embodying the resilience and determination of a true Kansas farmer. His unwavering work ethic was matched only by his steadfast devotion to his faith and country. Linus honorably served in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Expert (Rifle) Badge. After completing his service, he continued his commitment to duty by joining the Knights of Columbus, where he achieved the esteemed rank of 4th Degree Knight. He was also a proud and active member of the American Legion, upholding the values of service and camaraderie.

Though his days were often filled with the demands of farm life, Linus always made time for the things that brought him joy. He was an avid supporter of KU basketball and Kansas City Chiefs football, cheering with unwavering enthusiasm. Yet, above all his accomplishments, his greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren. Nothing brought him more happiness than spending time with them, sharing stories, laughter, and the wisdom of a life well lived.

Linus is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Antonia (Zerr) Waldman of Iola, Kansas; his loving daughters, Susan (Mike) Waldman of Iola, Kansas, and Lorie (Mark) McMahon of Valencia, California; his cherished grandchildren, Andrew Waldman of Lawrence, Kansas, Jeremy Waldman of Tampa, Florida, and Braden McMahon of Valencia, California; his brother, Delbert (Ethel) Waldman of Commerce City, Colorado; his sister, Irene Bechard of Scottsdale, Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pius and Anna Waldman; his brother, Pius D. Waldman; his sisters, Lorena Burgardt, Delores Zimmerman, and Mary Waldman; and his brothers-in-law, Don Burgardt, Ed Zimmerman, and Larry Bechard.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 20, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 South Main St., Quinter, Kansas. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 21, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 202 Cottonwood St., Park, Kansas, with burial to follow.
