Leonard Lee Tucker was born August 22, 1947, in Sutherland, NE, the son of Bud and Emily (Stoddard) Tucker. He passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012, in the Gove County Medical Center at Quinter, KS at the age of 64.
He attended rural schools in Gove County, Dighton High School, and graduated from Kansas State University.
On October 27, 1973, Leonard was united in marriage to Judy Anglin in the Shields Methodist Church.
He was a lifelong cattleman. When he was of pre-school age, his family moved to the Missouri Flats region in Southern Gove County. While at the Roscoe Coberly Feedlot, he developed his love for the cattle industry. Starting at a very young age, he raised small numbers of calves. After graduating from Kansas State University, Leonard returned to serve as feedlot manager at C Y Cattle Company. In later years, he owned his own ranch east of Gove and developed a fine Angus cow herd. He could often be seen accompanied by his dog, Blackie, checking the cattle.
Leonard was a member of the Gove Community Bible Church, where he was an elder and trustee, the Kansas Livestock Association, the Gove County Hospital Endowment Board, and he served in various officer positions for these organizations and many others. He also served on the
Unified School District #292 and #293 board.
He leaves to mourn, his wife, Judy of the home; three sons, Whitney, Lincoln and Jesse, all of Gove; his mother, Emily of Topeka; two sisters, Maxine Keaton of Meriden, KS, Sue Lazarus of Webb City, MO; two brothers, Scott Tucker of Dighton, and Dewey Tucker of Nebraska.
His father, Bud; an infant sister Margaret; and a brother, Lyle Tucker, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Tuesday, January 10, 2012 in Schmitt Funeral Home at Quinter.
