Leon Jay Groom was born January 20, 1942, in Ransom, KS, to the late Ernest and Marjorie (Glick) Groom. He passed away at his home in rural Quinter on Saturday, January, 21, 2012, at the age of 70. He was a retired farmer.
He attended schools in Quinter and graduated from Quinter High School with the class of 1961. He entered the United States Army on May 13, 1964.
During his spare time, Leon enjoyed gardening, working on gas engines, wood carving, working on any kind of machines, and collecting guns.
Survivors include a son, Jason Groom and wife, Amber, of Quinter; a daughter, Rebecca Biel and husband, Chris of Scott City; two grandchildren, Cheyanne and Blake Foster; two brothers, Daryl and wife, Trisha, of Bennington, KS, and Stan of Quinter.
His parents; and a sister, Donna Mae Groom preceded him in death.
A memorial service for Leon will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 27, 2012 in Schmitt Funeral Home at Quinter, KS with Pastor Ron Graham officiating. Inurnment is in Baker Township Cemetery at Quinter.
