Obituary

Due to the weather conditions, the service of Larry Litson has been postponed until 2:00 p.m. today, Saturday 12, 2019.

Lawrence Harlan Litson went home to Heaven on Monday, January 7, 2019 at the age of 71. Larry was born on September 17, 1947 to Wayne and Maxine (Mendenhall) Litson.

A native of Gove, Kansas, Larry graduated from Fort Hays State College in 1969 and went on to earn his doctorate of law from the University of Kansas in 1972. Following graduate school, he moved back to Gove, where he practiced law several years and later served as Gove County Magistrate judge for 18 years. He then was a private attorney in Gove County until he retired in 2016.

While in college, he met Maxine Herzog, and they were married on June 17, 1969. Together, they lived and worked in Gove and were active in their church. Larry accepted Christ as his Savior as a young boy while attending church camp. Throughout his life, Larry was known as a friend to pastors and missionaries. He was also instrumental in starting the Gove Bible Baptist Church and Hoxie Baptist Temple where he served as treasurer and deacon for nearly 30 years.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Maxine Litson; and by his brother, Ron Litson. He is survived by his wife of 49 years; daughter, Laura Keeton and husband Tony of Union City, Tennessee; son, Matthew and wife Sarah of Edmundston, New Brunswick, Canada; and seven grandchildren, Bradley Keeton, Jonathan Keeton, Kayla Keeton, Allison Litson, Meganne Litson, Joanna Litson, and Samantha Litson. He is also survived by his brother, Bob Litson and wife Lynn.

Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Gove Community Bible Church.  Burial will be in the Gove Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday, from 9 to service time at the church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hoxie Baptist Temple (for Missions Account).  Contributions made to the Temple may be sent to Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 South Main, Quinter, KS  67752.
