Obituary

Laverne Eugene Tomanek was born in Collyer, KS, on March 9, 1933, to the late Fred Eugene and Rose Katherine (Power) Tomanek. He passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS at the age of 78.


Bunny graduated from Collyer High School with the class of 1951 and attended Fort Hays University.


On October 20, 1952, he was united in marriage to Louise Darlene Nemechek in Christ the King Catholic Church at WaKeeney. They resided in WaKeeney where he worked for Malsam Terracing Company until retiring. Later Bunny did odd jobs for several years for KC Farms.


He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3774 in WaKeeney. During his spare time, Bunny enjoyed going to auctions, hunting, fishing, gardening, playing cards, bingo, and attending car races in WaKeeney and Hays. He thoroughly enjoyed visiting and mingling with people in general.


Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Darlene of the home in WaKeeney; a son Eddie Tomanek and wife, Christy, of Topeka; four daughters, Pam Ehlts and husband, Dennis, of Salina, Peggy Smith and husband, Danny, of Great Bend, Judy Jordan of Pueblo, CO, Rita Mernagh and husband, Jim, of Wichita; twelve grandchildren, Erica Brown and husband, Gerald, Jesse Ehlts, Chad Axman and wife, Bobbie, Greg Axman and wife, Ginny, Lisa Axman, Andrea Jordan, Linda Jordan, Megan Tingle and husband, Daniel, Trevor Tomanek, Kylee Mernagh, Austin Mernagh, Grace Mernagh; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Maxine Lindsay and husband, Duane, of Hays.

His parents; two sons, Danny Ray Tomanek and an infant son, Rodney Tomanek; a grandson, Joseph Axman; and a son-in-law, Mike Axman, preceded him in death.

Services for Bunny will be 10:00 AM, Friday, July 15, 2011 in Schmitt Funeral Home at WaKeeney with Father Donald Pfannenstiel officiating. Interment is in Christ the King Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:30-7:00 PM with Vigil Service following, on Thursday, July 14, 2011 in Schmitt Funeral Home.
