Obituary

WaKeeney resident, Kenneth Joseph Schoenberger, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital, WaKeeney. He was 70 years of age. Kenneth was born October 28, 1943, on the farm near LaCrosse, to Victor and Lydia (Kreutzer) Schoenberger.

Kenneth served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On April 20, 1968, he was united in marriage to Deborah Lynn Weber. To this union, five children were born. They later divorced. Kenneth worked hard as an area farmer and rancher. He was a member of the Christ the King Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus of WaKeeney, the Eagles Lodge, the National Farmers Organization, and was a past member of the Kansas Livestock Association. Among many things, Kenneth enjoyed watching baseball and playing a good hand of cards. He also enjoyed running the combine during harvest. He cherished time spent with family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his mother, Lydia of WaKeeney; five children Heather Schoenberger of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Trent of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jennifer and husband Chad Stroup of Grainfield, Leighton and fiance' Brandy of WaKeeney, Kira and husband Andrew Teeter of Grinnell; seven brothers John D. and the late Bonnie, Jim and wife Peggy, Vic Jr. and wife Colleen, Wayne, Martin and wife Carolyn, Kevin, and Gerard and wife Amy; three sisters Verlene and the late Jack Wilson, Phyllis and husband Gene Stieben, and MaryJo and husband Bob McCoy; six grandchildren Jahne' Schoenberger, Ethan Bird, Hunter Stroup, Dayne Schoenberger, and Italy and Nala Teeter; and 23 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Victor; nephew Brian Schoenberger, and great-niece Anna Bergquist.

A mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 14, 2013, at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Charles Steier as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, WaKeeney.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday with a Parish Vigil service immediately following at 7:00 p.m., both at the funeral home.
