Kenneth Eugene Loevenstein was born May 22, 1939, in Quinter, KS to Jake and Barbara (Spies) Loevenstein. He passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2011, in the Gove County Medical Center at Quinter at the age of 71.
He attended Quinter schools and graduated from Quinter High School with the class of 1958.
On January 2, 1960, Kenneth married Elsie Sanders in St. Michael Catholic Church at Collyer. For 29 years, he worked as a shop foreman/mechanic for Gove County John Deere Implement, but his real love was farming. He loved to tinker in his shop and could repair engines or most anything. He spent hours creating projects from wood and metal that had special meaning to him and family.
Those left to mourn his passing are his mother, Barbara Loevenstein, of Quinter, his wife, Elsie, of Quinter; a son, Rick Loevenstein and wife, Julie, of Midlothian, VA; four daughters, Eileen Loevenstein, of Salina, Geralyn Elder and husband, Lee, of Wichita, Carleen Horenkamp and husband, David, of Miramar, FL, Kari Loevenstein of Salina; and seven grandchildren, Lindsay, Derek, Mark, and Kurt Loevenstein, Alex and Cole Elder, and Austin Horenkamp.
His father Jake; and a sister, Joan Phlieger, preceded him in death.
Visitation is 5-6:30 PM Friday, January 7, 2011 at Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter with 6:30 Vigil Service.
Services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, January 8, 2011 in St. Michael Catholic Church in Collyer, KS. Interment is in the church cemetery.
