Kenneth Lee Cooksey, age 59, succumbed to cancer on December 29, 2009 in Quinter, KS. Kenny was born February 6, 1950 to Robert (Bob) and Edna (Kraft) Cooksey of Park, KS. He graduated from Park High School in 1968. He grew up working for his father at Cooksey Appliance & TV in Park, which was later moved to Quinter.
He married Lela Schmidtberger on April 29, 1972 in Park. They owned and operated Cooksey Appliance & TV in Quinter for 23 years.
Kenny was actively involved in the community and always willing to take on another task. He was a member of the Park Knights of Columbus, Quinter Service Club, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Quinter Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, and was the City of Park Fire Chief and Mayor for many years. He was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America and was very proud to have his four boys achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.
Surviving family includes his wife, Lela; mother, Edna, Park; sons Greg and wife Catherine, Gaithersburg, MD, Ryan and wife Laura, Quinter, Kyle and fiancé Jaime Appel, Manhattan, Todd, Lawrence; daughter Gina and husband Jeremy Platt, Manhattan; brothers Randy and wife Peggy, Oakley, John and wife Sharon, Grandview, TX, Richard and wife Stephanie, Wichita; sisters Karen and husband Tom Scott, Park, Cheri and husband Daryl Remington, Gove, Leann and husband Brent Evans, Gove, Mary and husband Jim Gormley, Grainfield; and grandchildren Isaac, Anne, and Simon Cooksey, and Hayden Platt. He was excited about the approaching birth of granddaughter, Kenley Platt.
Kenny was preceded in death by his father, Bob, and brother, James.
Services for Kenny will be held Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 10:30 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Park, KS.
Visitation is Friday, January 1, 2010 from 5-7 PM at Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter with Vigil following at 7:00 PM.
