Obituary

Julian Werth, age 81, of rural Ransom, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born on the family farm in rural Gove County, on February 16, 1934, to Thomas and Bertha (Kreutzer) Werth.

Julian attended Sunnyside country school, then went on to serve our country in the United States Army. On November 11, 1962, Julian was united in marriage to Elaine Geist in WaKeeney. He was a proud rancher and farmer. He was a member of the American Salers Association, having raised Salers cattle for many years. Julian was also a member of the Randall Reid VFW Post 3449 in WaKeeney. He loved polka dancing and was a member of the Sunflower Polka Club for many years. He was known for being an avid football fan, and he loved to participate in Football Pick'em, where he kept a detailed notebook of his picks. Julian cherished his time spent with family, especially his grandkids.

He is survived by Elaine; nine children, Terry Werth (Stefanie) of Parkville, Missouri, Tami (Troy) Wilson of Galva, Connie (Patrick) Lewis of Grinnell, Lynda (Mike) Jamison of Great Bend, Julie Werth of Sherwood, Oregon, Rhonda (Tom) Unruh of Sedgwick, Brenda (Brent) Blocker of Chapman, Brian Werth (Rachael) of Wichita, and Loren Werth (Kristie) of Weston, Missouri; twenty-two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, John Werth of Sparks, Nevada, and Edward Werth (Cordula) Werth of Park; and six sisters, Sister Germaine Werth of Wisconsin, Virginia Knoll of Wichita, Mary Kerns of Larned, Celestina (Dale) Moran of Phoenix, Arizona, Bertha Haas of Cornelius, Oregon, and Caroline (Don) Witte of Great Bend. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jerome, George, and Lawrence; and an infant sister, Bertha.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 13, 2015 at Christ the King Catholic Church in WaKeeney, with Father Charles Steier as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, WaKeeney.

Visitation will be Sunday, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a parish vigil service immediately following. Both will be at the funeral home in WaKeeney.
